The cotton string is treated with protective varnish, giving it a firm texture that doesn't affect the visual appeal. Please handle with care and avoid forceful pulling. The Zongzi is fully assembled; do not attempt to disassemble to prevent damage. (The interior is made with a different type of clay.)
