Chinese Hackberry (Celtis sinensis) An important native tree species in Taiwan, distributed north of the central region. Its leaves are ornamental in winter, turning a bright yellow. After leaf fall, it reveals the austere beauty of a winter forest. In spring, new buds emerge, covering the tree in tender green. Taiwanese Hackberry (Celtis taiwaniana), found south of central Taiwan, has smooth, hairless leaves. The hairy hackberry (Mao Pu) gets its name from the dense hairs on its new shoots and leaf veins, resulting in a more graceful trunk line. It is hardy with branches that possess a wild charm. It has strong sprouting ability and tolerates pruning, making it easy to cultivate a dense foliage canopy. It is highly suitable for shaping into a miniature bonsai tree with small leaves. It holds a significant place in the Taiwanese bonsai community. Paired with a 20+ year old Yixing rectangular pot with a mid-waist design. The pot base bears the "Yixing" maker's mark.
