About Wood Firing Wood firing is a traditional kiln method where wood is used to reach temperatures exceeding 1200 degrees Celsius. The resulting "fire marks" left by the direct flames on the ceramic body, along with the natural ash from burning wood, imbue the pieces with a warm, rich color and diverse variations, a realm unattainable by electric or gas kilns. Compared to conventional electric and gas kilns, the wood firing process, from kiln packing and ignition to sealing and cooling, requires approximately 8-10 days. Furthermore, the intense kiln pressure, coupled with factors like humidity, wood dryness, the timing of wood addition, and kiln placement, can significantly impact the success of the pieces, leading to a higher breakage rate. Experienced wood-firing artisans meticulously consider kiln airflow, the placement of pieces of varying sizes, the anticipated path of flames, and the precise control of combustion temperature during kiln packing.
