Instead of firing in the electric kiln that I normally use at home, I had the pieces fired in a kerosene kiln at the pottery maker that I am currently using. The pottery is fired using a method called reduction firing, which creates an oxygen shortage inside the kiln during firing, allowing you to enjoy a refined flavor that cannot be produced in an electric furnace. The glaze is original to the potter, and he also burns the rice straw himself and collects the ash. It has colors and textures that you won't find anywhere else. This straw ash glaze takes on a different appearance each time it is fired, but this time it produced very gentle, elegant colors and tasteful crystals. It has a warm and cozy atmosphere, and you can feel the earthy taste that is unique to pottery. The glossy parts are smooth to the touch, but the areas where the glaze is thinly applied are rough, allowing you to enjoy the texture that is characteristic of pottery. It is larger than a regular rice bowl and can also be used as a small bowl. The texture and color that are reminiscent of earthenware make not only white rice, but also mixed grain rice and seasoned rice look even more delicious. I use a small electric kiln and an electric potter's wheel at home to make my pottery, and I do all of the processes by hand, from kneading the clay to shaping, bisque firing, glazing, and final firing. Although we cannot mass-produce them, each one has its own unique expression, allowing you to enjoy the flavor that comes from being made by hand.
