About the Artist: Artist: Teacher Yu Hua-Yu Born in 1980, Yu Hua-Yu was captivated by the mysterious allure of the potter's wheel during his middle school years, an experience that left a lasting impression. After completing his military service, he moved to Yingge alone and apprenticed under masters Wu Guo-Rong and Wu Jian-Cai, honing his skills in wheel throwing and kiln firing. Upon establishing his own studio, he dedicated himself to meticulous research and development. His work has garnered significant acclaim, including the Gold Award in the Cultural and Creative Expo of the Taiwan Golden Pot Award Ceramic Design Competition, and an Excellence Award from the Tainan Taiwan Craft and Cultural Promotion Association. He is currently a prominent contemporary Taiwanese young ceramic artist. For over twenty years, Teacher Yu Hua-Yu has mastered the properties of various clay types, infusing them with his creative vision to blend tradition with modernity. He has developed acclaimed series such as the "Iridescent Shino," "Rock Mineral," and "Purple Clay Cloud Smoke." Notably, Teacher Yu has also successfully recreated the kiln firing techniques of Song Dynasty celadon. His "Crazing Series" emulates the Song Dynasty's wood-firing techniques, firing for five consecutive days and nights at temperatures exceeding 1260 degrees Celsius. The natural ash deposit during this process creates the coveted "crazing" effect characteristic of Song Dynasty celadon, resulting in truly astonishing pieces.
