Material Selection The cowhide leather used by "Cut Line School" is exclusively A-grade, high-oil, vegetable-tanned leather sourced from Italy. As this is a natural material, and the tannery employs a vegetable-tanning process that minimizes damage to the leather, the surface may inevitably bear minor "scars," "wrinkles," or "veins." We strive to avoid these during the cutting process or place them on less visible or non-load-bearing parts of the product. 2. Hand-Stitched Seams Our products are not made with sewing machines; all stitching is done entirely by hand. Before stitching, special awls are used to punch precise holes in the leather, enabling the creation of beautiful, wave-like stitch patterns – a key distinction from machine stitching. While this significantly increases production time, it is a crucial step where the artisan imbues the leather goods with soul and a warm, tactile feel. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges The final step before a product is complete is the burnishing and finishing of the leather edges. To ensure the edges appear smooth, rounded, and natural, "Cut Line School" employs its own unique edge-finishing method. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth any sharp edges. Then, an edge-finishing liquid is applied to create a flat appearance, repeated 2-3 times. This is followed by a layer of edge-finishing wax, and finally, a burnishing tool is used to rub the edges repeatedly until they achieve a smooth finish. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed products, "Cut Line School" currently uses Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes imported from the United States. To achieve a uniform and natural coloration, we begin by dampening the leather surface with water. Then, the dye is applied repeatedly with a sponge, building from light to deep tones until the desired color is achieved. After drying, a color-setting agent is applied to enhance colorfastness. Finally, the surface is wiped with clean water to remove any dust and further even out the color. As each piece is hand-dyed, subtle variations exist between the colors of individual bags, making each one truly unique.
