Ten Observations - WASHI TAPE

Cai Peihuo, in his efforts to promote a nationwide cultural movement, felt the limitations of learning classical Chinese and recognized that Japanese was not the mother tongue of Taiwanese people. He therefore advocated for the use of Church Romanized Alphabet as a written script, enabling the public to access knowledge and new information through phonetic representation of their mother tongue. "Cha̍p-hāng Koán-kiàn" was his practical application of this idea. It discusses the past to understand the present, exploring Taiwan as well as the world. This collection of critical essays is also the first formally published work of colloquial writing in Taiwan's literary history, holding significant historical importance. Author: Cai Peihuo (1889-1983), a native of Beigang, Yunlin. He was a member of the Taiwanese Cultural Association and the Taiwan People's Party, later founding the Taiwan Local Autonomy League and serving as editor and publisher for "Taiwanese Youth," "Taiwan," and "The Taiwan Minpao." During the Japanese colonial period, he was dedicated to Taiwan's democratic autonomy movement, contributing to the petition for the establishment of a Taiwan Provincial Assembly, the publication of "The Taiwan Shinminpo," and the promotion and education of Taiwanese Romanized Alphabet.
