A Glimpse of Memory My fondness for walnut cookies stems from my grandmother. They were her favorite snack, a cherished memory. A small neighborhood store sold them for NT$40 a pack of six. She would carefully take out a folded, old NT$50 bill from her coin purse. I'd eagerly volunteer to buy them for her, knowing the change could get me a pack of Doublemint gum. Grandma's purse was small and worn, its patterns barely visible. It carried a faint scent of VapoRub and menthol balm, much like the aroma of her clothes. Walnut cookies were Grandma's favorite. I like to think I was hers too.
