Original Watercolor Postcards: Taiwan's Endemic Butterflies and Moths

Watercolor paintings of the wings of Taiwan's endemic butterflies and moths. Top left is the Zephyrus Euxinus (Western Wind Gray Butterfly), Taiwan boasts 27 species of the Zephyrus family, which are relics from the Ice Age. They inhabit only the misty forests of mid-to-high altitudes. When their wings are closed, only simple gray and brown hues are visible, but when spread, the wings reveal dazzling metallic sheens of green, blue, and pearl, earning them the name "living jewels of the misty forests." Bottom left is the Spindrift Gray Butterfly (Aurelius Mnasithea Formosanus), also known as the Red-Edged Yellow Small Gray Butterfly due to its wing coloration. It is an endemic subspecies of Taiwan. The underside of its wings is yellowish-brown, with orange wave-like markings along the edges. It is commonly found from plains to low-altitude mountainous areas. Its larvae feed on Persicaria chinensis, and adults can be seen year-round. They are often seen sipping nectar from wildflowers along roadsides and are numerous. Top right is the Actias Formosanus (Taiwan Moon Moth), affectionately known as the "Moon Goddess Moth." It belongs to the large moth family Saturniidae. The male moths have golden-yellow wings, while the females have bluish-green wings. They primarily inhabit the mid-to-low altitude mountainous regions of Taiwan. Bottom right is the Papilio Retsina (Lanyu Swallowtail), a large swallowtail butterfly, also known as the Lanyu subspecies of the Emerald Swallowtail. It is exclusively found on Orchid Island (Lanyu). Original watercolor painting postcards.
