These one-of-a-kind Kintsugi pierced earrings feature Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki pottery from Nishikawa Teizaburo Shoten, a long-established store in Kyoto. Founded in 1917, this representative Kyoto pottery store has been delivering Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki both domestically and internationally for over 100 years. They even exhibited at the 1958 Brussels World Expo. We were specially gifted precious pottery fragments from them that were deemed unsellable due to various reasons like cracks or chips. These are a different color variation from a previously sold-out series of earrings. This time, the pieces feature a calm color palette and delicate gold decorative patterns. Within these small fragments lies the elegance and vibrancy characteristic of Kyoto's pottery. Our intention is to go beyond simply reusing broken items; we aim to transform beautiful techniques and culture passed down through generations into forms that can be enjoyed in contemporary life. Each piece is meticulously crafted with this sentiment in mind. The ear wires are made of 14KGF (14k gold-filled) hooks. Gold decorative finishes are applied to the back as well, with careful attention paid to the coating. Their light and airy size makes them perfect for everyday wear, as well as for complementing kimonos or for those slightly more special outings. This work is created using a modern, simplified Kintsugi technique. Unlike traditional urushi made from the sap of the lacquer tree, this method uses adhesive.
