In the 1930s, the United States faced economic hardship during the Great Depression, leading to severe cutbacks in military provisions. For years, without declared wars, officers and soldiers relied on outdated equipment from World War I. The outbreak of World War II quickly spread across the globe, necessitating the procurement of new equipment tailored to diverse environments. Military needs dictated the development of distinct clothing for extreme cold, humid, and tropical climates. Historical records show that the N-1 Deck Jacket, engineered to withstand cold, was a standard uniform for the U.S. Navy, protecting frontline sailors from the harsh winds at sea. The N-1 Deck Jacket was revised and upgraded in 1943, officially issued that same year. The original N-1 Deck Jacket featured a minimalist style, with "USN" printed in bold, 3-inch lettering on the left chest to signify military affiliation. A white label on the back of the neck indicated the garment's size and military specifications. Distinctive features include a drawstring hem and ribbed cuffs. The inwardly set ribbed knit cuffs were designed to prevent sea winds from entering the jacket, effectively blocking the ingress of cold air. RED TORNADO recreates this classic N-1 Deck Jacket, using RT's self-developed "JUNGLE CLOTH." This fabric possesses a substantial feel, is densely woven, and offers windproof and water-repellent properties. "JUNGLE CLOTH," also known as Bedford Cord, is named after Bedfordshire in England. The front of the fabric displays closely spaced whipcord twill, while the reverse resembles satin. With a weight of 430g, it features a three-dimensional texture and meticulous detailing. The lining is a blend of 30% alpaca wool and 70% wool, providing excellent warmth. Our team spent six months analyzing the original collar ribbing composition, undergoing multiple pattern adjustments. Ultimately, pure wool was used for the cuffs, crafted using a seamless tubular knitting technique, closely replicating the original. RED TORNADO consistently pursues traditional craftsmanship in fabric development. The production of this fabric is exceptionally complex due to its high density, leading to considerable material waste during weaving.
