Vegetable-tanned leather, as the name suggests, is leather tanned using **plant-based tannins**. It's a general term for leather preserved using the **tannic acids found in plants**. This is the **oldest and most primitive method of leather tanning**. The characteristic of this type of leather is its initial **light, skin-like color**. However, it gradually deepens to a caramel hue or even darker with exposure to sunlight, time, air, and water, making your leather goods more beautiful and lustrous with use. The leather we select undergoes **no surface treatment**. Just like human skin, cattle have **natural grain patterns and scars** from their natural growth. Surface treatment is akin to makeup, hiding all imperfections. Therefore, **leather with very poor surface quality typically requires surface treatment**.
