Gold-filled items are regulated, so these marks are not arbitrarily applied. Consequently, these items are significantly superior to gold-plated ones. Gold-filled jewelry is crafted with a base metal filled with precious metal, such as rhodium (a member of the platinum family), brass, and sterling silver.
