It may seem like we own more, but the items that truly resonate with us are fewer. Objects serve as touchstones for cherished memories: a wallet from Dad, a well-worn belt, an ID card holder gifted by a classmate. Though these items may gather dirt and age with use, they retain their original function and can be revitalized with simple maintenance and cleaning. Moreover, time bestows upon them a unique and distinct character. In 2017, we took over a leather goods factory in Miaoli that was on the brink of closure. With no prior experience, we gradually explored the craft of leatherworking. We fell in love with the way genuine leather transforms over time, changing color, developing a warm sheen, and becoming truly one-of-a-kind. It is this passion that has allowed the rhythmic sounds of hammering and stitching to continue echoing in Miaoli. RamahLeatherware, a brand that chooses to slow down amidst the fast-fashion trend, is committed to offering elegant, innovative, and high-quality leather goods. Introduction to Cowhide Used | ◆ Vegetable Tanning This refers to leather treated with natural tanning agents, resulting in a warm hue and visible pores. Compared to leather treated with chemical agents, vegetable-tanned cowhide has a subtler scent. Its characteristic feature is how it becomes more lustrous with use, evolving into a style entirely different from its original appearance. This transformation process is sometimes referred to as "leather nurturing." Such leather, which changes in color with use, is highly favored by a segment of consumers. Vegetable-tanned leather also comes in different grades; the higher the oil content and the fewer the scars, the more premium and expensive the grade. High-quality vegetable-tanned leather primarily originates from Europe, where most of RamahLeatherware's leathers are sourced, with a small portion from South America. If you wish to learn more about the leathers we use, please feel free to message us. ◆ Leather Characteristics - Prolonged exposure to water may cause discoloration; please air dry as soon as possible. - Cowhide naturally exhibits some scars, much like human skin. These are more apparent in leather treated with natural agents. Please view these scars rationally; RamahLeatherware ensures that over 90% of scars are avoided. ◆ Care Instructions - If used regularly, no additional maintenance is required. However, if stored for extended periods in Taiwan's humid climate, it is prone to mold. Please store in a dry, well-ventilated environment or a dehumidifier box. ◆ If the leather gets wet, avoid direct sunlight or using a hairdryer. Rapid drying can make the leather brittle. Allow it to air dry naturally. Accidental water exposure may result in visible watermarks. Other Notes | • The thickness of the leather does not dictate its quality; all leather is processed from full hides. • Handmade items are not perfect; please reconsider if you are a perfectionist. • Vegetable-tanned leather is soft and more susceptible to scratches.
