Shuifei Sand, Emperor Sand, Zijin Sand, and Crystal Sand are all high-content quality cinnabar. Their **primary differences lie in color, texture, hardness, and manufacturing methods.**
**「Shuifei Sand」**
**True red, with a slight orange undertone. Its surface has a warm, matte finish that becomes more lustrous with wear, developing a patina.**
The manufacturing process involves repeatedly grinding cinnabar into fine particles to form a paste, mixing it with water, allowing it to settle, and then collecting the upper "turbid liquid." This is followed by further settling and precipitation (the water-lifting purification method). The resulting cinnabar mud at the bottom is air-dried and then formed using traditional pressing techniques. Fine, even mineral sparkle particles can still be seen on the cross-section.
**「Emperor Sand」**
**Tends towards a true red with a brighter hue and higher hardness.**
The manufacturing process involves refining natural cinnabar ore through multiple stages such as **crushing/grinding/magnetic separation/water-lifting/high polishing**, followed by traditional pressing. Emperor Sand has almost no surface sparkle but exhibits sparkle internally. The surface is treated with a **high-polishing** process, giving it a metallic sheen, especially under sunlight, creating a full metallic effect.
**「Zijin Sand」**
**A purplish-red hue with slightly lower hardness than Emperor Sand.**
The manufacturing process involves multiple stages like **crushing/grinding/screening** of natural cinnabar ore, but **without water-lifting purification.** Therefore, the surface is less refined and contains scattered, small mineral sparkles, resembling a "starry sky."
**「Crystal Sand」**
**A purplish-red color, translucent.**
Large particles of cinnabar are directly chipped from the cinnabar ore. Large crystal particles are clearly visible on the surface, appearing transparent under light and emitting a fluorescent red glow.
**> Spring Plowing, Autumn Harvest**
**Everything in this world that unfolds gracefully, poetically, and beautifully tends to happen naturally, much like the turning of the seasons.**
**Learn to slow down, clear your mind, approach life with gentleness, respect the power of time, and allow everything to grow naturally. Like a tree, grow with focus and without fear, developing clear annual rings.**
**Our craftsmanship is just the same!!**
**> Cinnabar**
The earliest documented mention of cinnabar in Chinese literature uses a single character, "丹" (dān). "丹" is an ideogrammic compound character. Ancient miners would excavate mineral deposits in wells, and the character "丹" visually represents a well ("井") with a dot ("、") in the middle, signifying something extracted from a mine. This substance was cinnabar.
Because cinnabar is red, often a deep red, "朱" (zhū) also means red. Later, "丹砂" (dānshā) became known as cinnabar. "丹" and "朱" describe the color, while "砂" describes its shape, referring to irregular granular minerals.
Cinnabar's color is exceptionally long-lasting. Chinese calligraphy and painting are referred to as "丹青" (dānqīng), where "丹" signifies cinnabar. It is also an essential component of "八宝印泥" (bābǎo yìnní), an ink pad, whose main ingredient is cinnabar.
From a Feng Shui perspective, cinnabar is collected from minerals that have gathered the essence of the sun and moon, absorbing the positive energy of heaven and earth. Thus, cinnabar possesses a strong Yang energy field. We can observe that jade feels cool to the touch, while cinnabar feels warm.
Since ancient times, cinnabar has been indispensable in Taoist rituals for drawing talismans, consecrating objects, warding off evil, and suppressing malevolent forces. Cinnabar has always been revered as a supreme material for inviting luck, changing fortunes, suppressing negative influences, driving away evil spirits, attracting blessings, and accumulating wealth. It carries auspicious meanings of great fortune and prosperity, along with peace and health.
The "Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing" (Classic of Materia Medica) lists cinnabar as a superior herbal medicine, often used in treatments for calming the spirit, detoxification, and alleviating insomnia with excessive dreaming.
For us living in modern times, owning one or two cinnabar artifacts can also cultivate our character, soothe our eyes, and nurture our hearts.
**> Authentication**
**All cinnabar products in our store are high-content cinnabar with a substantial weight. You can use the following methods for authentication:**
>. Burning cinnabar will turn it black. (Please heat it indirectly. It is generally not recommended to burn the finished product directly, as controlling the time and area can be difficult. If burned for too long and it turns black, it cannot be restored.)
>. Genuine cinnabar can draw orangey-red lines on paper. (To avoid damaging the appearance of the finished product, please draw on an inconspicuous area or use the complimentary bead for testing.)
**> Care and Maintenance**
1. Avoid Corrosion
Cinnabar is a mineral and is insoluble in water. However, frequent contact with chemicals like soap and shower gel can corrode cinnabar.
2. Avoid Contact with Metal Objects
The mineral elements in cinnabar can absorb metal ions, causing irreversible dulling or blackening of the cinnabar.
3. Avoid High Temperatures
The mercury sulfide component in cinnabar only releases at temperatures of 380 degrees Celsius. Therefore, as long as you avoid exposing cinnabar jewelry to high-temperature environments, you can wear it with confidence.
4. Avoid Collisions with Hard or Sharp Objects
Cinnabar has high hardness but is brittle, so be careful to prevent drops.
5. How to Clean
If you find your cinnabar is dirty, do not soak it in water, as this will alter its original luster! You can wipe it gently a few times with a slightly damp cotton cloth and let it air dry.
6. Oiling for Maintenance
Apply a layer of white tea oil or olive oil to the finished product, allowing the surface to fully absorb the oil. This will make it more lustrous and bright. After applying oil, if sealing it in a brocade box, you can wrap it in a layer of plastic wrap to prevent the oil from staining the brocade lining.
7. Frequent Handling
Frequently handle the cinnabar jewelry worn on your person. This will allow the surface to develop a very thin layer of oil, making it appear more antique and elegant over time.
The actual item is more exquisite and beautiful than the photos.
