Sangostone products often feature retro designs from the 1980s, with common motifs including floral patterns (like the Butterfly series), seashells (Coquille series), or rustic landscapes. These fine cracks are not signs of damage but rather a phenomenon in ceramic terminology known as "crazing." This is very common in vintage stoneware or semi-porcelain like Sangostone, primarily due to: 1. Inconsistent Coefficient of Expansion: This is the fundamental reason. The "body" (inner clay) and the "glaze" (outer glassy layer) of the tableware shrink and expand at different rates when heated or cooled. When the glaze shrinks more than the body, the glaze surface cracks under tension, forming numerous fine lines. 2. Aging and Physical Fatigue: This tableware was typically produced in the 1980s to 1990s. Over time, ceramics can absorb trace amounts of moisture from the air, causing slight expansion.
