One metal, two distinct experiences. May develop a reddish-brown copper oxide in high-salt environments. ◇ Alloy (Brass/Zinc/Stainless Steel/Silver surface, Copper/Brass interior): Please be aware if you have a copper allergy! Experiments show that high-salt or high-acid environments accelerate oxidation, leading to darkening or verdigris formation. ◇ S925 Silver: Turns black in sulfurous environments, becomes foggy in high-salt conditions (can be wiped with a silver polishing cloth), and may turn red or foggy in hydrochloric acid. ◇ 304 Stainless Steel: Highly stable in general environments. May develop pitting (greenish-brown oxides) when exposed to hydrochloric acid. Once the outer layer is compromised, contact with high-salt environments can produce yellowish-brown oxides. ◇ Zinc Alloy: Very stable in normal environments, but may develop cracks in highly acidic conditions (such as hydrochloric acid). Changes may begin at these cracks, leading to metal embrittlement. ◇ 14K Gold-Filled (Plated): Typically has a brass core with a thick gold layer on the outside. With normal use, it can maintain its appearance for 5-10 years. Avoid contact with chemicals during wear. If the outer layer is scratched, exposing the brass, oxidation may occur. The outer layer remains very stable in the experimental environments described above.
