Its name, Benzoin (安息香), has two proposed origins: Li Shizhen suggested it was named for its ability to ward off evil spirits ("an xi" meaning to pacify). It was historically regarded as an incense for dispelling malevolent influences. Another theory posits that the raw material originated from the Parthian Empire (modern-day Iran). Traditional Chinese Medicine considers benzoin to "aromatize and open the orifices, stimulating the central nervous system." It is also a commonly used incense mentioned in Buddhist scriptures, employed for consecrating rituals, such as the purification of the Zhunti mirror and offerings to Vajrayaksa deities. Benzoin, also known as "Zhuo Ju Luo Xiang" (拙具羅香), is mentioned in the *Great Compassionate Daharani Sutra of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva with Thousand Hands and Thousand Eyes* (千手千眼觀世音菩薩廣大圓滿無礙大悲心陀羅尼經). It states: "This dhāranī of Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva is true and without falsehood. If you wish to invite this Bodhisattva, chant to Zhuo Ju Luo Xiang (which is Benzoin) twenty-one times and burn it, and the Bodhisattva will come." Furthermore, the *Ratnachakra Dharani Sutra* (如意輪陀羅尼經) states: "If you wish for Vajragarbha Bodhisattva to manifest, mix sandalwood and benzoin with ghee and honey. Focus your mind on Vajragarbha Bodhisattva and burn them. Perform this practice 100,000 times, and Vajragarbha Bodhisattva will personally manifest." While it can indeed be used to invoke deities, its primary function is to influence the human heart and mind. It is also suitable for purifying spaces (if deities can be invoked, purification is inherent). It possesses both stimulating and calming properties, offering emotional warmth and active encouragement. It is particularly recommended for burning alongside Frankincense. The Spiritual Power of Benzoin: It brings a warm embrace and encouraging affirmation, making it ideal for addressing persistent nightmares. Benzoin (14g): Golden Benzoin (14g): Sacred Benzoin (14g): About Dragon Blood: Dragon's Blood Tree is hailed as one of the longest-living tree species on Earth, with some individuals reaching up to 6,000 years old. It primarily grows in tropical regions of Africa and Southern Asia. Its funnel-shaped appearance effectively collects every drop of rainwater, and its branches act as channels, directing water to the roots. This adaptation allows it to thrive even on the arid island of Socotra. When the bark of the Dragon's Blood Tree is cut, a vibrant red sap flows out. Local communities utilize this "dragon's blood" as a dye or as medicine for respiratory and gastrointestinal ailments. Shamans also incorporate it into rituals and alchemy to enhance their spiritual powers. In China, it is known as "Xue Jie" (血竭), also called "Qilin Jie" (麒麟竭), a potent blood-activating medicine specifically for treating bruises and strains. Traditional Chinese Medicine also contains relevant records. Su Song of the Song Dynasty, in his *Tang Materia Medica* (唐本草), noted: "The original plant of Xue Jie grows several zhang high, with an elegant, winding form. Its resin flows from the wood, dripping down like viscous honey, solidifying over time to become 'Jie'. It is red like blood and can be harvested at any time." The most famous Dragon's Blood Trees on the island resemble large mushrooms, but viewed from below, they look like UFOs. Their deep red resin resembles blood, and it is said that the trees can be up to six thousand years old. This deep red resin, named Dragon's Blood, is used not only in medicine and dyes but also in witchcraft, alchemy, and folk magic. It is believed that using Dragon's Blood can enhance the efficacy of spells. About Inca Holy Wood Resin: Although this small bag comes with a notable price, its fragrance is truly astonishing. The aroma of the Holy Wood resin is quite different from that of the Holy Wood itself. Initially, I thought I had been deceived, but upon lighting it, oh my! This was the familiar scent of Holy Wood. Since resin represents the essence of the tree, the fragrance is more refined, grounded, and enduring. Inca Holy Wood has been used in rituals by indigenous peoples of the Americas for thousands of years. It holds profound significance for them. The lower grade of Holy Wood is burned during ceremonies to purify the space and connect with the spirits. The mid-grade Holy Wood is used to craft wands and ceremonial staffs. The highest grade of Holy Wood is even considered sacred and not permitted to be harvested, reserved for veneration of the divine. How to Use: Ignition Methods: 1. Place incense powder (e.g., sandalwood powder, Holy Wood powder) underneath and burn it together. 2. Use charcoal discs. You don't need to use a whole disc at once; break off half or a quarter. Use a lighter to heat the charcoal disc until it glows red (be cautious when igniting, handling, or moving the charcoal; take care not to injure yourself). Place the resin you wish to burn on the red-hot charcoal disc. A small amount of good quality resin will produce a strong fragrance. 3. Use an electric incense burner (ensure you use a metal tray, as it will be difficult to clean otherwise). Some resins will melt completely, while others will turn black and charred, indicating they have finished burning. Usage Time: There are no set limitations. Some say not to burn incense at night, but essential oils, perfumes, lotions, and sprays are all fragrant. I personally believe your state of mind is paramount. "When the mind is without obstruction, there is no obstruction, and thus there is no fear. Far from distorted views, attain Nirvana." Usage Location: There are no set limitations; suitable for any room or office. Amount to Use: A single piece is quite fragrant. I personally suggest using it for its aromatic quality, with purification being a beneficial added function. For guidance on the appropriate amount, please refer to the section below. *How much is sufficient to use?* This question is exceedingly difficult to answer. Firstly, are you purifying a person or a space? What is the size of the space? A larger person may require more than a smaller person. A larger space will require more than a smaller space. Furthermore, the condition of the person or space to be purified will influence the amount needed. For example, if a cup of water is 20% contaminated, the same filter might clean it in two or three passes. However, if the water is 80% contaminated, it might require seven or eight passes or more. Therefore, this is something you must experiment with yourself. Unless you have a friend with exceptionally keen senses who can perceive and advise you, it is up to your own subjective judgment. If you feel it is not purified, use more; if you feel it is purified, you do not need to use more. Note 1: Natural products vary in size and form; items are shipped randomly. The photos show the form of one batch. The items in this store are natural herbs and natural resins. As they are natural, leaves will vary in size, some complete and some broken. The same applies to resins; particles will have different sizes. Some resins are more brittle and break easily into powder. When the shop owner purchases wholesale in large quantities, it is sold by weight. Is it possible for me to tell the seller that the particles must be within a certain size range and contain no powder? Natural resin particles come in various sizes, including powder, and some even have bark attached. Each batch is different, and the shape of each particle within a batch will never be the same. The amount of powder also varies. The photos are of some of the resin from one particular shipment, all intended for burning. Isn't powder even better for burning? Some people even go to the trouble of grinding it into powder to burn. Resins in the store are weighed and shipped randomly. If you purchase from this store, it signifies that you have read these descriptions. Perfectionists, please consider carefully before ordering. Note 2: Resins can be blended according to personal preference; there are no taboos. Some people frequently ask if resins can be burned together. Of course, they can! You can burn one at a time. Charcoal discs are very convenient; once one burns out, you can place another. Alternatively, you can mix two, three, or even countless types and burn them together. Ultimately, the scent that you find most comforting when burned is what matters most.
