Cup and saucer inlaid celadon glaze

A set of cups and saucers with lovely inlaid patterns. This is a beautiful piece with fine crazing and inlay patterns on a deep, transparent green color. This piece is made using Shigaraki clay, and is shaped on a potter's wheel, then carved, the pattern carved out, bisque fired, white mud filled in the patterned areas, the excess wiped off, inner glaze (celadon glaze), and final firing. The clay for the body of the vessel and the clay (mud) filled in are different types, so they shrink differently when fired, and the white clay may not blend well with the recessed areas. This is why we make many prototypes and take the time to carefully finish the piece. The simple design means that each piece can be used individually. The cup is easy to hold and smooth to the touch. It would also make a great gift for someone special. You can enjoy watching the texture increase as it becomes more crazy and the flavor deepens as you use it.
