Shuifei Sand, Emperor Sand, Purple Gold Sand, and Crystal Sand are all high-content quality cinnabar. Their **main differences lie in color, texture, hardness, and manufacturing methods.**
**「Shuifei Sand」**
**A true red, with a slight orange undertone. The surface has a warm, matte finish that will become glossier with wear, developing a patina.**
The manufacturing process involves repeatedly grinding fine cinnabar particles into a paste, mixing with water, letting it settle, and collecting the upper "turbid liquid." This is then allowed to settle again for purification (the "Shuifei" method). The bottom cinnabar mud is air-dried and then pressed using ancient techniques. Uniform, tiny shimmering mineral particles can still be seen on the cross-section.
**「Emperor Sand」**
**A more vibrant true red with higher hardness.**
The manufacturing process involves crushing, grinding, magnetic separation, Shuifei purification, and high polishing of natural cinnabar ore through multiple stages. Emperor Sand has almost no visible mineral shimmer on the surface, but it is present internally. The surface undergoes a **high polishing** process, giving it a metallic luster, especially under sunlight, enhancing its metallic feel.
**「Purple Gold Sand」**
**A purplish-red color with slightly lower hardness than Emperor Sand.**
The manufacturing process involves crushing, grinding, and sieving natural cinnabar ore through multiple stages, but **without the Shuifei purification.** Therefore, the surface is less refined and has scattered, small shimmering mineral particles, creating a "starry sky" effect.
**「Crystal Sand」**
**A purplish-red color, translucent.**
Large cinnabar particles directly chipped from cinnabar ore. Large crystal particles are clearly visible on the surface. Under light, each particle is transparent, emitting a fluorescent red glow.
**> Spring Plowing and Autumn Harvest**
**Everything expansive, poetic, and beautiful in this world tends to happen naturally, much like the turning of the seasons.**
**Learn to slow down, clear your mind, treat life with gentleness, revere the power of time, and let everything grow naturally. Like a tree, focused and fearless, growing clear annual rings.**
**Our craftsmanship is just the same!!**
**> Cinnabar**
In the earliest written records, cinnabar was referred to by a single character, "丹" (dān). "丹" is a pictographic character. Ancient miners would excavate shafts, and extract minerals from within the shaft. Thus, the character "丹" is essentially the character "井" (jǐng - well) with a dot in the middle, signifying the extraction of something from a mined well. This "something" was cinnabar.
Because cinnabar is red, often a deep red, "朱" (zhū) also means red. Later, "丹砂" was called "朱砂". "丹" and "朱" describe the color, and "砂" describes the shape, referring to irregular granular minerals.
The color of cinnabar is unfading. Chinese calligraphy and painting are known as "丹青" (dānqīng), where "丹" refers to cinnabar. It is an indispensable ingredient in the "Eight Treasures Seal Paste," also primarily made of cinnabar.
From a Feng Shui perspective, cinnabar is collected from minerals that have gathered the essence of the sun and moon. It absorbs the positive energy of heaven and earth, thus possessing a powerful yang magnetic field. We can observe that while jade feels cool in the hand, cinnabar feels warm.
Since ancient times, cinnabar has been used in Taoist rituals for drawing talismans, consecration, warding off evil, and suppressing negative energies. Cinnabar has always been regarded as a supreme item for enhancing luck, dispelling negativity, driving away evil, attracting blessings, and accumulating wealth. It carries auspicious meanings of great fortune, wealth, and health.
The *Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing* (Classic of Materia Medica) lists cinnabar as a superior herb, often used in medicinal treatments to calm the nerves, detoxify, and alleviate insomnia and excessive dreaming.
Living in the modern era, owning one or two cinnabar artifacts can also serve to cultivate one's character, nurture the eyes, and soothe the mind.
**> Authentication**
**All cinnabar products in our store are high-content cinnabar with a strong sense of weight. You can authenticate it using the following methods:**
>. Burning cinnabar will turn it black. (Please heat it indirectly. It is generally not recommended to burn the finished product directly, as controlling the time and area is difficult. If it turns black after prolonged heating, it cannot be restored.)
>. Real cinnabar can draw an orange-red line on paper. (To avoid damaging the aesthetic of the finished product, please choose an inconspicuous area to draw the line, or use the complimentary bead provided.)
**> Care**
1. Avoid Corrosion
Cinnabar is a mineral and does not dissolve in water. However, frequent contact with chemicals like soap and shower gel can corrode cinnabar.
2. Avoid Contact with Metal Objects
The mineral elements in cinnabar can absorb metal ions, causing irreversible dulling and blackening of the cinnabar.
3. Avoid High Temperatures
The mercuric sulfide component of cinnabar only releases at temperatures of 380 degrees Celsius. Therefore, as long as you avoid exposing cinnabar jewelry to high-temperature environments, you can wear it with peace of mind.
4. Avoid Collisions with Hard or Sharp Objects.
Cinnabar has high hardness but is brittle, so be careful to prevent drops.
5. How to Clean
If you find your cinnabar is dirty, do not soak it in water, as this will alter its original luster! You can gently wipe it a few times with a slightly damp cotton cloth and let it air dry for a while.
6. Oiling for Maintenance
Apply a layer of white tea oil or olive oil to the finished product. Allow the surface to absorb the oil, making it more lustrous and bright. If applying oil, you can seal it in a brocade box, perhaps wrapping it in a common plastic wrap to prevent the oil from staining the brocade lining.
7. Frequent Handling
Frequently handle the cinnabar jewelry worn on your body with your hands. This will allow a very thin layer of oil to adhere to the surface, making it appear more antique and elegant over time.
The actual item is more exquisite and beautiful than the photos.
