- The Jian Shi (Sword Lion) of Tainan is a unique guardian emblem found on residences in the Anping district. From the Ming Zheng, Qing Dynasty, to the Japanese colonial era, families in Anping would craft Jian Shi totems above their doorways, on their screens, or as decorative elements. In recent years, with road expansions leading to the demolition of old homes, the number of Jian Shi has significantly decreased. Yet, searching for these elusive Jian Shi figures as you wander through Anping's old streets adds a touch of mystery and delight to your visit.
