As a natural material, and due to the leather tanneries' use of vegetable tanning methods that minimize damage to the hide, the leather may inevitably bear minor "scars," "wrinkles," or "vein marks." We strive to avoid these during the cutting process or place them in less visible or non-stressed areas of the product. 2. Pure Hand Stitching Our products are not made using sewing machines; all items are meticulously hand-stitched. Before stitching, special diamond chisels are used to punch stitch holes into the leather, which is essential for achieving the beautiful, wavy stitch pattern that distinguishes our work from machine-sewn items. While this significantly increases production time, it is a crucial step where the leather artisan imbues the piece with soul and a warm, tactile feel. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges Before a piece is finished, the edges are burnished and sealed. This process ensures the leather edges appear smooth, rounded, and natural. "Qie Xian Pai" employs its own unique edge-finishing technique. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth the sharp edges of the leather. Then, an edge sealant is applied to create a flat surface, a process repeated 2-3 times. Finally, a layer of edge wax is applied, and the edges are burnished repeatedly with a burnishing tool until they achieve a smooth finish. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed products, "Qie Xian Pai" currently uses alcohol-based leather dyes imported from Fiebing's in the United States. To achieve a uniform and natural coloration, we begin by slightly dampening the leather surface. Then, using a sponge, we apply the dye layer by layer, gradually deepening the shade until the desired color is achieved. Once dry, a color sealant is applied to enhance colorfastness. The surface is also wiped with clean water to remove any dust and further even out the color. As each piece is hand-dyed, there are subtle variations in color between individual bags, making each one unique.
