Endearingly cute, the side spines of the 'Duwei Wan' resemble dandelions. Its areoles are densely covered with fluffy white spines, and the body features prominent bumps with tiny spines, each areole crowned with a slightly darker main spine. Mammillaria duwei, belonging to the Cactaceae family and the Mammillaria genus, features woolly areoles. Flowers emerge from the axils of the tubercles, measuring about 1.5 cm in diameter, with yellow petals and yellow stamens and pistils. They are scentless, blooming around noon and closing by 5 PM. The plant grows relatively quickly, with seedlings showing accelerated growth in their second year. Duwei Wan, with its woolly areoles. The body develops small, prominent nipple-like tubercles, each adorned with various small spines – some resembling feathers, others like tiny insects. They are not large, making the plant exceptionally charming. | Light and Watering | In summer, enhance ventilation and provide partial shade to prevent sunburn from intense direct sunlight. Place it on a windowsill or balcony with ample light. Water approximately once a week during summer. If indoors is dim or there are many cloudy, rainy days, supplement with bright plant lights. During rainy seasons, ensure timely drainage to prevent root rot and avoid water accumulation in the uneven surface of the cactus body, which can lead to decay. Water about once every two weeks from spring to autumn. Winter is a dormant period, so keep the soil dry and reduce watering, extending the interval to once a month. During cold snaps, move the plant indoors for warmth and protect it from cold winds. Place it in a sunny spot and reduce watering frequency, maintaining an indoor temperature above 7°C for safe overwintering. | Soil | You can choose a succulent-specific nutrient soil, or mix peat moss and perlite in a 1:1 ratio. Add an appropriate amount of general-purpose organic granular fertilizer. Avoid fertilizing during high temperatures and in winter. Prevent splashes of fertilizer and water onto the plant.
