Talisman beads from Burmese Buddhist temples. Copper alloy. Solid cast. Year of origin unknown, estimated to be from the 19th-20th century. After arriving in Taiwan, they have been cleaned to remove oxidized patina. The beads appear bright yellow when photographed, but will oxidize and darken over time if not polished. The alloy composition of these talisman beads contains gold, though in small proportions. Cinnabar is also incorporated during the smelting process. Possessing a powerful magnetic field, they are believed to suppress evil spirits and negative entities. They serve as potent protective amulets, for creating boundaries, and for good fortune. They have also been used in foundations and for creating protective fields. Currently, some individuals use them for spiritual practices and meditation. Placing them in a home altar or in a car is said to enhance the Feng Shui and magnetic field. This bead is affixed to a stainless steel base with a 2cm diameter. Due to variations in base diameter, the size of the talisman beads can differ significantly. They can be worn as personal talismans, attached to the waist, or strung onto keychains or mobile phones for good luck and protection. Regarding the efficacy of Talong talisman beads, information can be found online, so details are omitted here. There are two beads available, labeled A and B. Even after exploring numerous websites of Burmese collectors on Facebook, which featured artifacts like Buddhist statues, wooden beads, ancient beads, jewelry, and opium weights, no information regarding Talong talisman beads was found. It is surprising how unique and rare these Talong talisman beads are. Currently, only three interpretations have been gathered from fellow dealers in Taiwan for reference. The first interpretation: A seller from Northern Taiwan refers to them as "Mercury Charms." The second interpretation: According to artifact dealers selling these beads, they represent astrological patterns symbolizing celestial bodies like the sun and moon. The third interpretation: Research and deduction by a dealer from Central Taiwan suggest these might be the initial forms of a script from a very ancient period in Myanmar, holding profoundly special meanings.
