【Kyoto Furoshiki: Natsukashi "Winding Path"】
Created by artist Koji Hinata. Born in 1964 and based in Osaka Prefecture, he graduated from the Department of Art Studies, Faculty of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts. His work has been featured across various media.
- Design Concept: This piece extends from the imagery evoked by the word "kune kune" (winding). The animals depicted (excluding the cat) are imagined creatures born from the sounds associated with this word, imbuing the artwork with a childlike wonder and surreal quality.
- Unique Details: The original artwork features winding patterns in horizontal stripes. To achieve a striped effect when used as a furoshiki, the designer has intentionally arranged the patterns diagonally.
Different motifs are placed in each of the four corners, designed to be revealed when the item is wrapped, adding an element of surprise and playfulness.
The production process meticulously recreates the hand-drawn feel of the original artwork, making this cloth also suitable for display as a standalone piece of art.
【About Natsukashi: Pure and Free Expression】
"Natsukashi" (Art Brut) translates to "raw art" in French, referring to creations that express the self in a free and uninhibited manner, unbound by conventional artistic concepts.
Artist Empowerment: A portion of the proceeds from this series will be contributed back to the supporting organizations and the artists themselves, fostering their continued creative journeys.
Exquisite Packaging: The product is presented in a paper envelope, featuring the philosophy of Natsukashi, an artist profile, and sample wrapping photos on the back, making it an ideal gift.
【Practicality and Aesthetics: The 50cm Craftsmanship, Made in Japan】
Perfect for everyday use as a book cover, tissue box cover, and more. Furthermore, the production process meticulously recreates the hand-drawn feel of the original artwork, making this cloth also suitable for display as a standalone piece of art, adding a vibrant touch to any space with its vivid colors.
- High-Quality Fabric: Crafted from lustrous satin fabric. Cotton satin, often used for fashion accessories like scarves and handkerchiefs, offers a soft texture and a smooth feel.
【The Origin and Charm of Furoshiki】
"Furoshiki" is a traditional wrapping cloth originating from Japan's Muromachi period, which has evolved into an eco-friendly, stylish, and ingenious cultural symbol. It not only serves as an alternative to disposable paper bags but can also be transformed into unique tote bags, gift wraps, or home decor through various tying techniques, showcasing your creativity and taste.
