Naruwan (NARUWAN): 3952 Old Mountain Goat - Our Beautiful Homeland, an Elegant and Grand Writing Piece. Carefully selected Desert Ironwood, with a high-definition, high-gloss surface treatment. This technique involves repeatedly applying transparent lacquer and polishing until the pores formed over years in the wood grain are completely filled by the lacquer, requiring dozens of applications. The high-definition, high-gloss process creates a smoother surface, enhancing the writing feel and making the exquisite wood grain more three-dimensional and visible. It also makes maintenance easier, protecting the wooden body from accidental ink stains. However, this meticulous process incurs higher costs. Both the high-definition, high-gloss finish and the standard finish offer unique charms, catering to different tastes. Old Mountain Goat Pens sincerely presents this collection, appreciating your support. The high-definition, high-gloss finish boasts a luster akin to the wood trim in luxury car interiors, reflecting light and offering a particularly substantial feel. Most finishes on the market involve simple polishing or waxing; such intensive treatments are exceedingly rare (natural grain, quality item shipped randomly). The fountain pen is complemented by gunmetal-plated metallic accessories, a barrel-shaped, airtight twist cap design, and an exclusive, custom-molded clip with a special spring mechanism, making it delightful to hold and use.
Desert Ironwood is a legume shrub (small tree) that grows only in the desert regions spanning from the southwestern United States to northwestern Mexico. Due to the harsh and arid desert environment, Desert Ironwood grows slowly, requiring centuries to mature into substantial timber, with a lifespan of up to 2000 years. Plants growing in the desert are inherently resistant to drought, poor soil, and intense sunlight. Their wood is exceptionally hard, like iron. The slow growth in harsh conditions contributes to its iron-like hardness and considerable weight, making it dense enough to sink in water. In the eyes of local Native American tribes, it is a rare and precious wood, ideal for furniture and exquisite carvings. Internationally, Desert Ironwood is typically used for handcrafted knife handles, high-end custom fountain pens, artisanal crafts, and musical instrument parts, symbolizing superior quality.
This pen model is available with two distinct nib options: the spring steel tip (Queyue knife) and the spring steel calligraphy tip, both meticulously ground and modified from German JoWo #6 (WIN #12) flexible steel nibs.
The Queyue knife is crafted by Old Mountain Goat artisans, hand-grinding and adjusting a German JoWo #6 (WIN #12) flexible steel nib (Fine point) into a blade-like grind. It allows for subtle variations in line width, offering a more elastic writing feel than standard ground nibs. It is durable, resilient to pressure, and easy to master.
The spring steel calligraphy tip is custom-made and adjusted by Old Mountain Goat artisans from a German JoWo #6 (WIN #12) flexible steel nib (Extra Fine point). It produces variations in line width, mimicking the expressive quality of a brushstroke, and offers a unique writing experience. It is durable, resilient to pressure, and beginner-friendly, making it an ideal introductory calligraphy nib.
**Gift Set Includes: German SCHMIDT K2 Converter (ink not included) + a handcrafted black genuine leather pen sleeve made by a Taiwanese master artisan (style shipped randomly) + 3952 Old Mountain Goat wooden pen box packaging.**

Hand-adjusted Calligraphy Nib Care:
1. For calligraphy nibs, it is generally recommended to first dip the nib in ink and allow it to break in for a period before using a converter.
2. If experiencing ink flow issues with a converter, check the angle of your grip. Ensure both iridium points simultaneously contact the paper; avoid writing with one side tilted. If issues persist, inspect the nib for trapped paper fibers or debris.
3. Try filling ink directly by inserting the converter without using the ink sac.
4. Clean the nib thoroughly. If one iridium point is consistently lower than the other, or if excessive pressure is applied, it can lead to misaligned iridium points, causing scratching and paper debris accumulation in the nib slit.
5. The calligraphy nib is an EF nib adjusted to have a curved tip. Line variation is achieved not by pressing down, but by adjusting the pen's angle. Holding the pen more upright, with less contact area between the nib and the paper, produces finer lines. Tilting the pen further increases the contact area, resulting in broader strokes. The ability to write both broadly and finely depends on your practice and skill.
In support of environmental protection, we do not automatically provide paper bags. If you require one for gifting, please specify this in the order notes after placing your order. Thank you.

Note: Regularly wipe and maintain the inside of the pen body and cap. When storing, avoid placing the pen nib-down for extended periods.
Gentle Reminder: When writing, avoid pressing down hard or writing with a biased angle (for right-handed users, it is recommended to hold the pen so the nib points towards the 10 or 11 o'clock direction). This helps prevent accidental misalignment of the iridium points, which can cause scratching and ink flow issues. Rinse the nib with clean water regularly to prevent ink clogs that may affect writing quality.
Gentle Reminder: The spring steel tip can withstand a certain amount of writing pressure. Begin with a light touch and gradually increase pressure to explore the nib's elasticity. Downward pressure should be applied gently to slightly spread the nib. For horizontal strokes, use a light touch, and avoid applying excessive, undirected pressure to prevent damage or misalignment of the nib.
Gentle Reminder: The spring steel calligraphy tip also has a certain capacity for writing pressure. Start with a light touch and gradually increase pressure to test the nib's flexibility. Avoid applying excessive, undirected pressure to prevent damage or misalignment of the nib.
