Sorting: Categorized by length, with some straw tips removed. Selection: Straw is chosen for uniform thickness before weaving. De-leafing: Leaves from the unfinished tips of the straw are removed. Beating: The structure of the straw is broken down to make it soft and pliable for weaving. For finer items, two additional steps are performed: "Splitting" (dividing the triangular straw into two to three sections) and "Rubbing" (removing the white fibers within the straw by rubbing). **|| A Little Story About Taiwanese Straw ||** Grandmothers and mothers used to say that people used to "raise" their straw. They favored the dark, lustrous straw, which typically developed its color with time and use.
