The scent of straw is the aroma of home, the taste of hometown.
By integrating natural fibers with intricate local weaving techniques, honed over time, we gently interpret lines and scents, creating modern, everyday straw hats that carry historical memories not just in our hearts, but as a tangible continuation in our lives.
"Xi Quan" is a hat and mat shop from Dajia, Taichung, passed down through three generations, named after the founder's grandfather.

Taiwanese straw, a plant native to central Taiwan, possesses a captivating natural aroma.
Historically, straw was primarily used to weave mats, hence the nickname "Mat Grass." It is highly absorbent, breathable, and smooth against the skin, offering a cooling sensation to the touch. With continued use, it develops a richer sheen over time, embodying a sense of lived experience.
Taiwan boasts a straw weaving culture spanning nearly three centuries. Each item is meticulously handcrafted by local grandmothers and aunts, imbued with the spirit of Taiwan.
**|| Straw Weaving Process ||**
Growth: 3-4 months
Sun-drying: After harvesting, sun-dried for about 5-7 days until golden yellow, ensuring complete dehydration.
Sorting: Categorized by length, with some straw tips removed.
Selection: Straw is chosen for uniform thickness before weaving.
De-leafing: Leaves from the unfinished tips of the straw are removed.
Beating: The structure of the straw is broken down to make it soft and pliable for weaving.
For finer items, two additional steps are performed: "Splitting" (dividing the triangular straw into two to three sections) and "Rubbing" (removing the white fibers within the straw by rubbing).
**|| A Little Story About Taiwanese Straw ||**
Grandmothers and mothers used to say that people used to "raise" their straw.
They favored the dark, lustrous straw,
which typically developed its color with time and use.
However, some people would accelerate this transformation by wiping the straw with tea,
to deepen its color.
