A sense of familiarity with a city a second time.
On the occasion of the Autumn Equinox this year, for the first overseas family trip in my life, Kyoto is my first choice for my second trip.
Many people choose to travel to Kyoto with their families because of its rich history, attentive service, or because of years of experience, which allows them to understand the exquisite and restrained craftsmanship of the craftsmen. Unexpectedly, on the day when autumn officially arrived, I brought my parents to Kyoto for the first time in my life. I felt the comfort of the equal length of day and night, and the ambiguous moment between orange and green when the maple leaves had not yet dyed red. Following my unintentionally arranged map, I went to a familiar temple and said hello devoutly; before heading to the cafe of my heart, I stopped at an unnamed daily rice ball shop and queued up with nearby residents to choose hot rice balls. I made handmade rice balls for breakfast; I went back and forth to the market to prepare dishes for dinner; I drank a glass of beer and ate pickled vegetables with my parents in the tatami living room of the B&B.
There are no crowded tourist attractions, no popular restaurants that tourists must eat, and no time-filled itinerary. Although it is my parents’ first trip to Kyoto, it is my ideal “second visit to Kyoto”. There is also a sense of freshness as a tourist, and I have yet to become a gourmand in Kyoto. Compared with the casual viewing and inability to consume when I was young, when I am about 30 to 40 years old, I can already buy ceramics by artists, and I have just enough accumulation. With your own taste and knowing how to order a glass of your favorite wine in a restaurant, you will not have a repetitive feeling of "I've been here before" during your travels. Instead, you will have a familiar feeling of "Ah, I'm here again." In front of the thousand-year-old Kyoto, we are all still immature souls. No matter how many times we visit, until we become Kyoto experts, we may still be considered a "second-time visitor".
With the heart of the first issue and the second meeting, "Saury" once again produced a Kyoto theme for the first time in seven years.
