Life is a path, leading to a wilderness where flowers bloom.

For me, the desire to write has always been a desire to inscribe my life through words, and in the process of writing, to continually question who I am.
Words always articulate the life of the present moment. Over the years, as my life's circumstances and encounters have shifted and flowed, the form of my writing has naturally changed. Reading my own words, from those written in the past to those written now, I see the transformations of life, and at the same time, I see what in life will never change.
"Who am I?"
Every time I write, I know that I am simultaneously answering this question. As long as I write, the words will come; as long as I write, I am becoming myself.
As my life's journey has meandered to this point, looking back at every landscape I have seen, I realize that life has always been a beautiful miracle where desolation and abundance coexist. In recent years, I have gradually cultivated the habit of recording and immortalizing certain moments of life through poetry. Therefore, each poem in this collection will connect with others, forming a path of my life, and the end of this path will always be a wilderness where flowers bloom.
/
The scattered poems of Green Island have finally been gathered into this collection. Thank you, dear readers, for your continuous support. I am a happy and fortunate person. Thank you for always arriving with your lamps lit.

The book is divided into five parts.
Part I: "Pastorals and Hearth Smoke"
In my heart lies a grassland, and poetry is the pastorals and hearth smoke upon that grassland. Writing about creation, spirituality, and beauty.
Part II: "A Small House with a Light On in the Wild"
Like guarding a tiny candlelight within a house in the darkness, writing poems that are warm and healing.
Part III: "Forest Living Journal"
Writing about the various encounters I've had in my natural wooden house in the forest on a hill in Taitung.
Part IV: "The River That Never Ends"
Writing about birth, aging, sickness, and death; writing notes on desolation.
(Note: "Notes on Desolation" is my prose work published in 2021.)
Part V: "You Are in the Scenery"
The scenery is beautiful, and you are in the scenery, which is even better. Writing about companionship, fondness, and love.

I cannot clearly articulate each morning awakened by the rising sun;
I cannot clearly articulate each glistening dewdrop on a leaf's tip;
I cannot clearly articulate each flicker of firelight;
I cannot clearly articulate each night sky illuminated by stars.
I cannot clearly articulate how each drop of rain becomes the blood of the soil;
I cannot clearly articulate how each tree steadfastly guards the earth we share;
I cannot clearly articulate how each gust of wind interprets the journey of the Crested Serpent Eagle;
I cannot clearly articulate how each grain of rice teaches us a fulfilling love.
Because I cannot express these things clearly in words, language pities me, and so I became a writer.
I wrote this on the first page of "The Wilderness Where Flowers Bloom."
Isn't this the very essence of the desire to write? Before having readers, before becoming a writer, writing is solely for articulating everything felt by one's own heart.
Looking at the scenery, before it forms into language, what the heart feels already exists. Before we utter the word "loneliness," loneliness already exists deep within our hearts. Writing, though a craft of words, is preceded by poetry, the origin of which takes shape in the heart.
With every beat of our heart, we are experiencing life. Stars, moon, sun, rain, mountains, seas, smiles, tears, hands, happiness, sorrow, and love, and so much more... Because I find them beautiful, because I like them, because they feel so important, countless subtle feelings fill my heart, my soul dances for what? I discern them carefully, experience them one by one, and then write them down. Those things that cannot be turned into words, I write them down. I cannot say them, I am unable to say them, I can only write them down.
I write them down, leaving silence to the world. But please don't forget, within that silence, there lies my entire heart.

A Beautiful Existence/
The damp soil remembers the journeys of insects and ants; the boundless sky remembers the migrations of migratory birds; in this universe, there must be a vast and endless existence that always witnesses the completion of a life.
And the most fulfilling life is when each soul, in its innate way, fulfills the responsibilities bestowed by destiny, thereby experiencing the reality of being alive. Born a horse, run; born a fish, swim; born a bird, soar.
And my reality is this very moment, the moment of writing. This moment.
The answer to so-called destiny, for me, lies in writing it down. For those verses invited by the universe, knocking at the door of my soul, I must rise to answer. It is only when I write, when I am willing to become a channel, that I can leave behind for the world a kind of beautiful existence that endures throughout one's own life. In this way, every distant place I have visited, every moment I have experienced, every person I have met, gains meaning through this.
