The artist carefully controls the thickness of each glaze application before firing at 1260°C. Over 20 hours of intense heat transform the piece, allowing the glazes to contract and flow within the kiln, evoking the intricate patterns and fluid movement of peacock feathers. The challenge in its creation lies in the precise control of glaze thickness and the delicate adjustment of the firing temperature curve. Glazes that are too thin or fired at insufficient temperatures will not achieve the desired peacock feather pattern. Conversely, glazes that are too thick or fired at excessively high temperatures can cause the glaze to run onto the accompanying plate, potentially damaging both the cup and the plate. Even ambient temperature fluctuations can influence the final outcome. Numerous factors are at play, and despite years of dedicated practice, achieving absolute predictability remains elusive. It is precisely this inherent variability that imbues each finished piece with its unique preciousness. The artist hopes this work inspires others to embrace hope in the face of adversity, to persevere with unwavering effort, and to ultimately unfurl their own beautiful "feathers," illuminating their lives with brilliance.
