Next is the kiln and firing kiln. The firing temperature reaches 800 degrees. After firing, the porcelain clay body is light pink and has water absorption characteristics. This is the first firing of the green body, which is called biscuit firing. After the biscuit firing is completed, it is the stage of glazing. The glaze is made up of various mineral powders, attached to the green body and then entered into the kiln for a second firing, which is called glaze firing, and the temperature will reach 1230 degrees. The glaze becomes a molten state at a high temperature. After firing, it is roughly divided into a matte or bright surface according to the composition of the glaze, which wraps the body tightly and evenly. If the work uses gold water, it is painted after the glaze is fired, and then painted on the ceramic surface with a fine brush pen dipped in gold water, and then fired at 700 degrees in the kiln. The sudden change of temperature might damage the ceramic items. ● Due to the temperature-sensitive characteristics of pottery, please avoid using pottery in ovens, microwave ovens, and dishwashers. Do not use the ceramic items in oven, microwave and dishwasher. ● Since the pottery still has some water absorption, please avoid immersing it in liquid for a long time to prevent the pottery from adsorbing dirt or odor. Ceramic items are stil porous, it might absorb the smell or stain from the usage. ● Please avoid friction between pottery and metal. In addition to scratching the surface of pottery, the matte glaze may also leave scratches. Keep ceramic items away from any contact with metal materials to avoid scratches. ● After cleaning the pottery, please wipe it dry or air-dry before storing to avoid moisture infiltrating into the pottery and causing mold. Air dry the ceramic items before storage to avoid mould. ● Due to the difference in expansion coefficient between the clay matrix and the glaze, it is a natural phenomenon that ceramics sometimes have cracks on the surface. The different expansion coefficients between claybody and glaze might cause crackles.
