◆Production Group Sasha Handicraft◆ Founded in 1978 in Kolkata, West Bengal, eastern India, it uses traditional techniques to create clothing and interior decoration. Activities were initially launched to support self-reliance among vulnerable groups in Indian society, support the production of traditional handicrafts, and provide employment opportunities. We currently support over 100 small producer groups in West Bengal and Odisha with technical guidance, marketing, business skills improvement programs and microfinance. We are also a member of the World Fair Trade Alliance (WFTO) and adhere to and implement the 10 principles of fair trade. Sasha Handicraft artisans create gorgeous, hand-printed silk dresses and tops using a variety of traditional techniques, including hand-weaving, tie-dye, hand embroidery, printmaking, metalwork, and embossed leather. Kantha embroidery, which means "stitching", is a skill passed down from ancient times in West Bengal and Bangladesh.
