As it is a natural material, and the tannery employs vegetable tanning methods that minimize damage to the leather's integrity, minor "scars," "wrinkles," and "vein marks" are unavoidable on the surface. We carefully select pieces during the cutting process, aiming to avoid these or position them on less visible or non-stress-bearing areas of the product. 2. Hand-Stitched Seams Our products are not made using sewing machines; every stitch is done by hand. Before stitching, special pricking irons are used to create the seam holes in the leather, enabling the creation of beautiful, wave-like stitches, distinct from machine-sewn lines. While this significantly increases production time, it is a vital step where the leather artisan imbues the piece with soul and a soft, warm texture. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges Before a piece is finished, the edges are meticulously burnished and sealed. This is done to ensure the edges appear smooth, rounded, and natural. "Tangent Linear" employs its own unique edge-finishing method. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth any sharp edges. Then, an edge-sealing liquid is applied to create a flat appearance, repeated 2-3 times. This is followed by a layer of edge-sealing wax, and then the edges are repeatedly polished with a burnishing tool until they achieve a smooth, refined look. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed products, "Tangent Linear" uses imported Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes from the United States. To achieve an even and natural coloration, we begin by dampening the leather surface with water. Then, using a sponge, we apply the dye repeatedly, building up the color from light to deep until the desired shade is reached. After drying, a color-fixing agent is applied to enhance colorfastness. Finally, the surface is wiped with clear water to remove any surface dust and further even out the color. As each piece is hand-dyed, subtle variations in color exist between individual bags, making every creation unique.
