Old Goat specifically selects the burl portion of the briarwood, which possesses a luster similar to the wood grain veneers in luxury cars. However, briarwood inevitably has some "black spots." Because it's sourced from the burl, each piece will have them to some extent. The patterns derived from the burl are intricate and beautiful. Through countless layers of painting, sanding, and polishing, it achieves a uniquely substantial feel. Under the HD high gloss transparent lacquer, the texture is further enhanced. The HD high gloss treatment is easy to maintain, resistant to ink stains or sweat, and makes the wood grain appear more three-dimensional. Most briarwood pens on the market are simply polished or waxed after turning. Such meticulous processing is extremely rare. (Briarwood has unique black spots and natural grain; high-quality pieces are shipped randomly.) The cap features an elegant barrel-shaped design with a flexible clip. The trim is gray chrome plated. This is the HD high gloss edition of the Italian briarwood pen, featuring a screw-on, airtight cap. The nib is a German Bock #250 (#6) standard titanium nib, handcrafted and adjusted by Old Goat artisans into a calligraphy nib capable of producing variable line widths. Hand-ground and Adjusted Calligraphy Nib: 1. For calligraphy nibs, it is recommended to start by dipping the nib in ink for writing (do not remove the converter installed in the barrel, to prevent ink from flowing back into the pen body after writing). Write to break in the nib's characteristics. After some use, then use the converter for inking. 2. The calligraphy nib is an EF nib ground and adjusted to have a curved tip, allowing for line width variation not solely by pressure, but by the angle of the pen hold. By utilizing the nib's curvature, you can achieve different line widths. Hold the pen more upright, with less contact area between the nib and the paper, and the line will be finer. The more angled the pen hold or with slight pressure, the larger the contact area between the nib and the paper, and the line will be thicker. The ability to write thick or thin depends on your proficiency. (Each nib has a certain pressure limit; do not apply excessive force, as it may damage or misalign the nib.
