1950s French GBP Sergent Major N.500 Nib - Extra Fine EF Once France's best-selling nib, adopted by many schools and public institutions. Its extra-fine and slightly flexible tip is ideal for daily English writing and sketching. Each nib is polished before leaving the factory. The box design features renowned French war paintings, intended to proclaim French national pride. It is said that after the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, images of French military victories were printed on the boxes to boost morale and remind the nation to seek retribution. This design and tradition continued into the 1960s. Writing sample shown was created using: Double A 80g copy paper and Staedtler green ink. (Authentic vintage item, not a modern reproduction. While supplies last.) Important Usage Notes: 1. No pre-heating or scrubbing with a toothbrush is needed. If the nib comes into contact with hand oils, simply clean with a mild detergent (like hand soap). 2. Some nibs may have horizontal or vertical polishing marks on the shoulder; these are factory marks from when they were made to ensure immediate usability after purchase, and are not defects. 3. If oil contamination affects ink flow or adhesion (e.g., from touching with hands or paper coatings), a simple wash with soap, followed by drying, will restore functionality. 4. Clean and dry the nib promptly after use. Allow it to air dry completely before storing to prevent rust. 5. Minor rust on the pen body will not affect writing, but rust on the nib itself will. 6. As an antique item over 50 years old, some signs of age are expected. Occasional rust may be present at the base of the nib, but not on the writing tip, ensuring writing quality remains unaffected.
