Top-grain leather consists of a dense, thin layer of fibers tightly connected to a slightly looser transitional layer, offering excellent strength, elasticity, and ease of processing. **How to Distinguish Genuine Leather?** Older generations might suggest smelling the leather to tell if it's real, but this is an inaccurate method. Many of our lovely customers often mention enjoying the scent of new leather goods. However, the "leather aroma" you perceive is actually the smell of chemicals and dyes used during the processing. **Don't Rely on Scent Alone** With advancements in processing technology, many imitation or synthetic leathers (PU) are now difficult to distinguish from genuine leather, whether by touch or smell. Here are two simple methods to help you identify genuine leather and avoid confusion in the future. ^^ 1. **Close Observation:** Compare the leather's surface to the skin on the back of your hand. Can you find any identical patterns? Even flawless skin has pores. Genuine leather surfaces, when examined closely, will reveal natural grain patterns and pores, with uneven distribution. The reverse side will show animal fibers, and a cross-section will display distinct layers. From the grain side to the fiber side, there's a natural layering. Synthetic leather, on the other hand, often has a clear artificial coating on the surface and fabric fibers on the back. Even if skillfully made to mimic pores, comparing them to your own skin's pores will reveal that artificial pores and grain patterns are often too regular, with consistent shapes and directions. 2. **Tactile Sensation:** Genuine leather has an elastic feel. When bent, it will develop natural creases of varying thickness. This is due to the natural and uneven fibrous structure of genuine leather, resulting in distinct, non-uniform wrinkles.
