Carbon-Infused Wood Firing: Ancient Craftsmanship, Unique Transformation
Wood firing is an ancient and exquisite ceramic firing technique, utilizing wood as fuel and requiring a lengthy 3 to 7 days of firing. This process is not only time-consuming and labor-intensive but also relies on accumulated experience and tradition. Its unique characteristic lies in the ashes left after combustion and the marks left by the fire on the clay body. These naturally formed textures make each piece a truly one-of-a-kind work of art. The success of a piece depends on the natural harmony between "clay, fire, wood, and kiln."
Wood-fired ceramics can be broadly divided into two types: unglazed and glazed. Unglazed wood firing directly fires the clay body, revealing its most rustic texture and exuding a natural charm from its primitive beauty. Glazed firing, on the other hand, involves the application of glazes, where the interplay of colors under the fiery baptism creates a wide variety of beautiful transformations.
Beyond its inherent artistic value, wood-fired pieces, due to the adhesion of natural carbon, can soften water and make water and tea taste sweeter.
The Unique Craftsmanship of Carbon-Infused Wood Firing
Building upon this foundation, carbon-infused wood firing represents a unique technique that elevates tradition. In this process, when the wood kiln reaches temperatures above 1200°C and the pieces are in a semi-molten state, the artisan opens the kiln and directly introduces raw charcoal. These raw charcoal pieces, under the intense heat of the kiln, do not ignite but rather melt and closely encase the surface of the ceramic pieces, which is the essence of "carbon infusion."
This technique is highly challenging. In the near-molten state of the ceramic body, the slightest misstep can lead to the piece collapsing. The extent to which the melted charcoal integrates directly impacts the final appearance and success of the artwork.
The Allure of Carbon-Infused Wood Fired Teapots
Carbon-infused wood-fired pieces not only possess the distinctive fire marks, ash glaze, and water-optimizing natural carbon inherent to wood firing, but the special "carbon infusion" treatment also bestows upon them a unique aesthetic of quiet depth, imbued with the marks of time. This special effect is often described as having the rustic and robust quality of a "sunken shipwreck." Each carbon-infused wood-fired teapot is a masterpiece forged by the artisan's exquisite skill and nature's awe-inspiring artistry. Its uniqueness and irreplaceability make it all the more valuable for collection and appreciation.

* Dimensions are measured manually and may have an error of within 0.5cm to 1cm.
* The works may bear some marks from the production process, as they are all handmade or semi-handmade. Minor operational marks are to be expected.
* During the firing process, natural phenomena such as mineral deposits or rough glaze textures may appear on or around the clay body due to the glaze and ash. This is entirely normal. If you have any questions about the product or would like to know more, please feel free to send a private message to the designer for assistance.
