Material Selection The cowhide selected by "Cut Line" is exclusively A-grade, high-fat vegetable-tanned leather from Italy. As a natural material, and due to the leatherworks' use of vegetable tanning—a process that minimally damages the leather's texture—slight "scars," "wrinkles," and "veins" are unavoidable on the leather surface. We endeavor to avoid these during the cutting process or place such areas on less visible or non-stress-bearing parts of the product. 2. Pure Hand Stitching Our products are not made with sewing machines; all items are meticulously hand-stitched. Before stitching, special awls are used to punch precise holes in the leather. This technique is essential for achieving the characteristic beautiful wavy stitch pattern, setting it apart from machine stitching. Although this significantly increases production time, it is a crucial step where the leather artisan imbues the piece with soul and a warm, tactile feel. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges Before finishing, the edges of the leather are carefully burnished. This process ensures the edges appear smooth, rounded, and natural. "Cut Line" employs its own distinct edge-finishing method. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth the sharp edges of the leather. Then, an edge-sealing liquid is applied to create a flat surface, repeated 2-3 times. Subsequently, a layer of edge-wax is applied, followed by vigorous polishing with a burnishing tool until the edges achieve a smooth finish. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed products, "Cut Line" currently uses imported Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes from the USA. To achieve even and natural coloration, we begin by slightly dampening the leather surface. The dye is then applied repeatedly with a sponge, progressing from lighter to deeper shades until the desired color is reached. After drying, a color sealant is applied to enhance colorfastness. The surface is also treated with water, wiping away any surface dust to further even out the color. As each piece is hand-dyed, there are subtle variations in color between individual items, making each one unique.
