As a natural material, and due to the minimal-damage vegetable tanning process employed by the tannery, the leather surface may inevitably bear minor "scars," "wrinkles," or "veins." We endeavor to avoid these during the cutting process or position them on less visible or non-stressed areas of the product. 2. Hand-Stitched Seams Our products are not made with sewing machines; all stitching is done entirely by hand. Before stitching, special diamond chisels are used to punch stitch holes in the leather, which is essential for achieving the beautiful wave-like stitch pattern, a key distinction from machine stitching. While this significantly increases production time, it is a crucial step where the leather artisan imbues the piece with soul and a warm, tactile feel. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges The final step before a product is complete is the burnishing and finishing of the leather edges. To ensure the edges appear smooth, rounded, and natural, "Cut Line School" employs a unique edge-finishing method. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth any sharp edges. Then, an edge-finishing liquid is applied to create a flat surface, a process repeated 2-3 times. This is followed by a layer of edge-finishing wax, and finally, a burnishing tool is used to rub the edges until they achieve a smooth finish. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed products, "Cut Line School" currently uses imported Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes from the United States. To achieve a uniform and natural coloration, we begin by dampening the leather surface with water. Then, a sponge is used to apply the dye repeatedly, layer by layer, from light to dark, until the desired hue is achieved. Once dry, a color-fixing agent is applied to enhance colorfastness. Finally, the surface is lightly wiped with a damp cloth to remove any surface dust and further even out the color. As each piece is hand-dyed, subtle variations in color exist between individual items, making every creation truly unique.
