Peak Tram - Miniature Building Blocks

The Peak Tram is the earliest motorized public transport in Hong Kong and the first funicular railway in Asia. The track is 1.4 kilometers long, with a gradient of 4 to 27 degrees and an altitude of 28 to 396 meters. It has been in operation since 1888, and travels to and from Hong Kong Island. Central Garden Road and Taipingshan Lufengxia, about 8 minutes by car. On May 30, 1888, at 8:00 a.m., the Peak Tram was presided over by the then Governor of Hong Kong, Des Voeux, presided over by the ribbon-cutting ceremony. It carried 600 passengers throughout the day, and its first-year passenger flow reached 150,000. At that time, there were three types of seats in the Peak Tram carriages: first class was only used by British colonial officials and residents of Taiping Mountain (both white); second class was used by British soldiers and Hong Kong police officers; third class was used by other people and animals. From 1908 to 1949, the two seats in the first row of the carriage were reserved for the exclusive use of the Governor and his wife of Hong Kong, and the bronze medal of "This seat is reserved for His Excellency the Governor" is hung on the back. So far (2015), the carriages of the Peak Tram have undergone 5 generations of changes. The fifth-generation carriage of this product was born in 1989, with red as the main color, introducing modern technology, upgrading the original power system to a microcomputer-controlled electronic drive, and having two trains to increase the passenger capacity to 120 people per car .
