Naruwan (NARUWAN): 3952 Old Mountain Goat - Our Beautiful Homeland, Grand & Elegant Writing Collection. Selected walnut burl wood, finished with a high-definition, high-gloss process. This high-definition, high-gloss technique involves repeatedly applying clear lacquer and then polishing until the pores formed by the wood grain over time are completely filled. This process requires dozens of applications of lacquer. The high-definition, high-gloss finish creates a smoother surface, enhancing the tactile feel when writing, and makes the exquisite wood grain appear more three-dimensional and distinct. It also makes the surface easier to maintain, preventing accidental ink spills from damaging the wooden body. However, this meticulous process incurs higher costs. Both the high-definition, high-gloss and the non-high-definition, high-gloss finishes have their unique charm, catering to different tastes. Old Mountain Goat sincerely offers these fountain pens, and we thank you for your support. The high-definition, high-gloss finish resembles the luster of premium wood trim in luxury cars, achieving a mirror-like shine and a substantial, satisfying feel. Most finishes on the market involve simple polishing or waxing; such intensive treatments are exceptionally rare (natural patterns, quality items shipped randomly). The fountain pen is equipped with gunmetal grey electroplated metal accessories, a barrel-shaped rotating airtight cap design, and a uniquely molded clip with a special spring mechanism, making it a joy to hold and use.
This model is available with two nib options: the Standard Calligraphy Titanium Nib and the Custom-Tuned Calligraphy Titanium Nib.
The Standard Calligraphy Titanium Nib utilizes a German Bock #250 (#6) standard titanium nib, which has been handcrafted and adjusted by Old Mountain Goat artisans to produce varying line widths reminiscent of a brush pen, offering a distinct and more flexible writing experience compared to standard steel nibs.
The Old Mountain Goat Custom-Tuned Calligraphy Titanium Nib (ground and adjusted from an EF nib) is a special nib requested from the German manufacturer, model #250 (#6). It has been handcrafted and adjusted by Old Mountain Goat artisans to achieve expressive line variations akin to a brush pen, producing a unique calligraphic flair. Compared to the standard calligraphy titanium nib, it offers greater flexibility and allows for a richer range of strokes. The nib is engraved with the distinctive 3952 Yushan (Jade Mountain) logo, making it a collector's item. (This nib offers optimal flexibility but may be more challenging for beginners; recommended for those experienced with calligraphy steel nibs or standard calligraphy titanium nibs as an advanced option).
**Gift Set Includes: German SCHMIDT K2 Converter (ink not included) + One Hand-stitched Genuine Leather Pen Pouch by a Taiwanese Master Artisan (color and style shipped randomly) + 3952 Old Mountain Goat Wooden Pen Box Packaging.**
Dimensions: Barrel diameter 145mm, Capped length 144mm, Barrel including nib 127mm, Cap diameter 14.5mm, Length 64mm, Total weight approx. 47g, Overall length 150mm.
Hand-adjusted Calligraphy Nibs:
1. For calligraphy nibs, it is generally recommended to dip the nib in ink and allow it to break in for a period before using a converter.
2. If using a converter results in skipping, check the angle of your grip. Both iridium points should land on the paper simultaneously; avoid writing with one side only. If skipping persists, check if paper fibers or debris are lodged in the nib slit.
3. Remove the converter and try filling the pen directly with ink (the "lung" method).
4. Wash the nib. If writing predominantly on one side (left or right iridium point) or applying excessive pressure, it can misalign the iridium points, causing them to scratch the paper and accumulate debris in the slit.
5. Calligraphy nibs are adjusted from EF nibs to have an arc. Line variation is achieved not by pressing down, but by the angle at which you hold the pen, utilizing the nib's curvature to create thicker or thinner lines. Holding the pen more upright results in less contact area with the paper and finer lines. The more you tilt the pen, the larger the contact area, producing thicker lines. The ability to write thick or thin depends on your proficiency and skill.
The Custom-Tuned Titanium Nib is a special titanium nib developed by Old Mountain Goat for the German manufacturer, featuring the 3952 Yushan LOGO imprint. It is softer and more flexible than a standard titanium nib, but less controllable. The custom-tuned nib's softness can easily tempt users to apply pressure. If the user's technique is poor or they haven't familiarized themselves with the custom-tuned nib's characteristics, it can lead to a temporary separation between the nib and the feed, causing ink starvation and preventing the pen from keeping up with the writer's speed, resulting in skipping. If the user's grip angle is off, combined with pressure, it can distort the ink flow channel, leading to inconsistent ink delivery. Therefore, this nib is softer and more flexible, making it more challenging to control. It is recommended to first gain proficiency with steel nibs or standard titanium nibs before advancing to the custom-tuned nib.
In response to environmental concerns, we do not proactively provide paper bags. If a gift bag is required, please specify this in the order notes. Thank you.
Images are for reference only. The product is for a single pen. Some photos may exhibit slight color variations due to lighting and angles. Please refer to the actual product.
Note: Regularly wipe and maintain the interior of the pen body and cap. When storing the pen, do not leave the nib pointing downwards for extended periods.
Gentle Reminder: Avoid pressing down on the nib or writing with it angled to one side (for right-handed users, it is recommended to hold the nib pointing towards the 10 or 11 o'clock position), to prevent accidental misalignment of the iridium points, which can cause scratching and skipping. Rinse the nib with clean water regularly to prevent ink blockage and maintain writing quality.
