In European coffee culture, there's a tradition of espresso or small cups of black coffee, which is why antique porcelain cups are often smaller. Larger vintage ceramic cups and saucers like these are quite uncommon! This mid-20th-century set features a creamy, off-white hue with a charming country maiden design. It belongs to the Obernai series, inspired by the rural landscapes and daily life of the Alsace region in France. The illustrations were designed by the French painter Henri Loux, depicting the pastoral scenery and traditional attire of Alsace. The inscription on the bottom reads: "Décor garanti inaltérable et résistant au lave-vaisselle." This French phrase translates to: "Decoration guaranteed to be indelible and dishwasher safe."
