"Taiwanese bubble tea 🥤," every time she visited Taiwan. - It's no exaggeration to say she truly misses that authentic taste from home, especially since you can't find the real deal in the US. Except, perhaps, at her favorite spot, "Half & Half," which has become a comforting taste of home for her. - This time, during my rare trip to the US West Coast, my cousin insisted I try it! Our first stop at a "Half & Half" location turned out to be closed. My aunt suggested we skip it, as driving to another branch might be a 30-minute detour, and after all, Taiwan is the birthplace of bubble tea, so missing out on the American version wouldn't be a huge loss. - However, my dear cousin, with a playful glint in her eye, secretly drove us to the second location. We were lucky to find it open that day. We each ordered a "Boba Milk Tea" from their "Half & Half Milk Tea" series. This series features milk teas with added toppings, where "Half & Half" refers to the blend of half milk and half "Half & Half" – a common dairy product in Western supermarkets, made from a mix of milk and light cream. - The first sip was astonishing! Anyone who's been to the US knows that American food and drinks can often be overwhelmingly sweet. But this bubble milk tea was perfectly balanced, not overly sweet at all, with a wonderfully chewy texture for the boba pearls. They weren't hard or off-tasting as I might have expected. Honestly, it was almost better than some Taiwanese bubble milk teas! The large cup size looked like a "chubby cup" from Taiwan. It was my first time trying a "chubby cup" bubble tea, and the shape was incredibly cute. Now I understand why it costs $5 USD (about NT$160) a cup, and why my cousin drinks it like water and loves it so much 😂. - If any of my followers living in the US miss the taste of authentic bubble tea, or if you happen to be visiting LA, you absolutely must try this incredible bubble tea shop!
