Slow down with the Blue Train, the slower the journey, the clearer the mind. The joy of railways is everywhere; being different is my attitude. [ The Blue Train ] The former Taiwan Railways' Blue Limited Express, which ran between Fangliao in Pingtung and Taitung, was known as the "oldest train in Taiwan." It earned the nickname "Worry-Free Train" for the beautiful mountain and sea views along its route. The Blue Limited Express was pulled by a diesel-electric locomotive and named for its blue carriages. However, the carriages lacked air conditioning, relying only on ceiling fans or open windows to catch the sea breeze. In the past, it departed Fangliao every morning, returning from Taitung to Fangliao after arriving. Along the way, it offered panoramic views of mountains and seas, as well as vistas of the Taiwan Strait and the Pacific Ocean. Once passengers boarded, it felt as if time stood still, hence the affectionate moniker "Worry-Free Train." Due to the electrification of the railway lines, it ceased operations at the end of December 2020. Many railway enthusiasts, saddened by the absence of the Blue Train, even initiated a petition on the National Development Council's Public Policy Network Participation Platform hoping for its return. After refurbishment by Taiwan Railways, it was scheduled to resume service by the end of 2021.
