What is home? Is it familiar scents, trivial nagging, or ordinary landscapes?
Home is so ordinary and unremarkable; perhaps one only understands its essence after leaving. What does leaving entail? Some departures are chosen, like migrating or flying far away; others are not, like time and aging, illness and death.
Winter marks the end of the year, a time for harvest, and the season when fruits ripen from green to red. As fruits mature, fall, and detach from their branches, they embark on new journeys. The scenery along the way is ever-changing. Looking back, one realizes they have unknowingly grown into a tree; looking back, one sees that the canopy of the mother tree was also a landscape in their life.
The picture book "The Fallen Fruit" is inspired by Children's (囝仔人) 2022 puppet show, "Seasonal Fruit Tales - Chapter of Winter." It focuses on the relationship between fruits and people, exploring emotions, actions, and festival connections evoked by fruits. Using the fruit tree and the detached fruit as metaphors, it suggests that a tiny seed may remain dormant within a mature trunk, just as a young heart may not have fully grown within a mature body.
I am both the tree and the seed, protected, and I also extend my branches to protect.

[About the Author] Children (囝仔人)
Unbound by subject, space, or form, they return to the simple spirit of "play."
True to the name "Children" (囝仔人), they aspire to maintain childlike innocence and curiosity, exploring various forms of objects, light, and puppetry. They delight in using everyday details as creative material, expanding the imagination and creation inspired by objects. Beyond theatrical productions, they also develop themed children's drama curriculum and lesson plans that integrate regional characteristics and culture, as well as any novel and fun artistic forms.
2022 "What is it!?" was selected for the 45th Recommended Reading List for Primary and Secondary School Students by the Ministry of Culture.
