Gold-filled items are regulated by the government, ensuring markings are not arbitrary. Consequently, these pieces are of significantly higher quality than gold-plated items. Gold-filled jewelry is made with a solid gold outer layer bonded to a base metal core, such as jeweler's brass or other alloys like rhodium (a platinum group metal), brass, and sterling silver. The appearance and durability of gold-filled items are akin to solid gold because their entire outer surface is pure gold. Everything you can see and touch is gold.
