[Basic stocking days are 7 to 14 working days] "In the past, we used experimental and alternative films to describe non-mainstream film production. Around the handover of sovereignty in 1997, the term "independent film" gradually became widely accepted. Although this term often appears in film discourses and film festival programs, its meaning and development are rarely discussed in Hong Kong. This book attempts to adopt a comprehensive approach to analyze Hong Kong independent films: combining academic critical reviews and in-depth interviews with individual directors. We believe that academic research and the voice of creators are equally important. We need to balance the two in research, especially in the category of independent films, because producers in this sector play the most important role in the production process. This book focuses on the producer’s first statement. I interviewed nine independent directors of different genders and ages: Xu Yashu, Zhong Desheng, You Jing, Lu Zhenye, Mai Wanxin, Cui Yunxin, Zeng Cuishan, Huang Xiuping and Zhuo Xiang to see how they view themselves How do you think about your position in the business-independent spectrum, and how to think about "independent" and "independent movies." This book highlights the organic combination of art creators and academic researchers, and emphasizes not only the voice of creation, but also the analysis and theorization of researchers. According to the themes of the director's work, we put them in three parts: "Queer Landscape", "Between Cities and States" and "Cruel and Youth". We believe that the exchange between scholars and the world of film creation can provide more solid research results for Hong Kong's independent film scene. 【About the Author】 Enoch Tan is a lecturer at the School of Film of Hong Kong Baptist University and obtained his PhD degree from the Department of Film of Hong Kong Baptist University.
