Feel free to follow for more updates, thank you~ IG: manmankogin ❉❉❉ The Origin of Kogin Embroidery ❉❉❉ Kogin embroidery (こぎん刺し kogin zashi) is an embroidery technique that originated in the Tsugaru region of Aomori Prefecture, northeastern Japan. Due to the "Sumptuary Law for Farmers" enacted at the time, farmers in Aomori, despite being in a cotton-producing region, were prohibited from using cotton fabric and were mandated to wear kogin (local work clothes, characterized by white cotton thread embroidery on indigo linen). However, clothing made from linen alone could not withstand the long, snowy, and humid winters of the Tohoku region. Thus, farmers began to thread stitches through the fabric's gaps to improve insulation and strengthen the material, leading to the development of what is known today as "Kogin embroidery."
