Product Description Product name: Chrysanthemum basket weave tumbler Dimensions: mouth diameter φ74mm x height H105mm Capacity: 240ml Product code: SK-T-ki-071 This design was created with the intention of creating a traditional design, yet of a higher quality. The design is based on a flat openwork chrysanthemum-shaped tumbler, and I wondered what would happen if I were to upgrade this tumbler even further. The intention behind the design of the flat openwork chrysanthemum-connected tumbler is that the bottom is clear and transparent, allowing you to fully enjoy the color of your drink. We followed that tradition while raising the grade. ・In addition to the chrysanthemum connection, we have added the even more difficult chrysanthemum basket weave. ・Instead of dividing it with a thick line or some other framework, the chrysanthemum connections and chrysanthemum basket weave were cut along the same line. - The size of each chrysanthemum piece has been reduced, creating a more detailed design. - The mouth area is rubbed at an angle to make it easier to eat. - Rough cuts are made on the sides to add the pleasant feel of the edges that are characteristic of Kiriko glass. -The large flats on the sides are cut using relatively specialized equipment in our workshop, so other craftsmen probably would not be able to produce this. - By removing the color from the entire bottom, the clear color stands out better and it looks beautiful. Reducing the size of the chrysanthemum connection would make it look more beautiful, but the amount of work required would increase significantly, and considering the price we could offer to users, we decided not to cut down on the size. However, this time, in order to improve the grade while keeping the traditional design, we decided to remove the small sized chrysanthemum connections, even though this would take time. There is also meaning behind the placement of the Kiku-Kagome pattern on top and the Kiku-Tsunagi pattern on the bottom. After carving it over and over again, I came to the realization that the sizes at which Kiku-Kagome and Kiku-tsunag look beautiful are different. This tumbler is open at the top and has a longer circumference at the top. With this design, the size of the chrysanthemum basket weave and the size of the chrysanthemum connection vary by as much as 2 mm. If the size of the Kiku-Kagome pattern is too small, the remaining color in the center will be crushed and it will not look beautiful, so it is not necessarily the case that the smaller the pattern, the more beautiful it will look. This is the logic behind why the Kiku-Kagome pattern is on top and the Kiku-tsunagi pattern is on the bottom. Also, the color of the chrysanthemum connection is lost, so when you pour a drink, it will rise from the bottom. We think it is also suitable for seeing colors. Nowadays, most workshops do not bleach the color from the bottom. To be honest, I have never seen anyone else doing this except me. If you remove the color from the bottom, the clear color will come out better and it will look very beautiful. We carved out about 10 different patterns for the lip and determined that rubbing it in a semicircular shape gave the best mouthfeel, so we adopted that shape. Structurally, it is a basic design in which a strip is carved into the center of the glass. However, by paying close attention to details and usability, I feel that the designs are differentiated in a way that other craftsmen would not, or perhaps could not, do. It is an upgraded traditional design that is packed with the wisdom and skill of artisans.
