[Features] This is a concertina-style Goshuincho (temple/shrine seal book) featuring 'Kiryu Textile,' a historic craft that stands alongside Nishijin weaving. Each book is carefully handmade from start to finish, beginning with the fabric cutting. Because the placement of the woven patterns varies, each piece is truly one-of-a-kind. [About the Work] Kiryu Textile offers a remarkably rich variety, ranging from pieces of breathtaking, artistic beauty to those with a unique worldview, as well as stylish and contemporary designs. With a history spanning over 1,300 years, Kiryu Textile is a 'treasure' imbued not only with technical skill but also with the passion and dedication of the artisans who have preserved this industry to the present day. Observing the many varieties of Kiryu Textile, one cannot help but feel the potential for creation in their rich expressions. Textiles are three-dimensional structures created by interlacing warp and weft threads to form patterns. Consequently, the appearance of the patterns and colors changes depending on the type, intensity, and angle of light. This is the beauty that characterizes these textiles. While the fabric is artistic on its own, I hope that by shaping it into this form, many of you will come to know the charm of Kiryu Textile. I carefully select fabrics with woven patterns that leave a lasting impression of beauty. My production philosophy is to 'shape each textile so that it appears at its most beautiful and radiant.' [Dedication to Handmade Craft] There are things that can—and should—be done precisely because this is handmade. I explore these by engaging deeply with each piece. Different fabrics require different approaches. I break down the work process into stages, including the details, and take my time to complete them. All items are made to order; I do not keep stock. This is due to the delicate nature of the materials used to create a Goshuincho. Every material handled is highly sensitive, and detailed work varies according to environmental conditions such as climate, temperature, and humidity. I value 'freshness' in the Goshuincho that reaches you, as it is a condition of its 'beauty.' Each piece is born over the course of at least five days, sometimes longer. When it comes to attaching the Hosho paper, I do so with the intention of breathing life into the book as it finally takes the form of a Goshuincho. In the final stage, I finish the work with a blessing for the book's journey ahead, where it will eventually be filled with many wonderful Goshuin stamps. [Essence] This Goshuincho is a companion for your visits to the many sacred grounds of gods and Buddhas, places you visit with various thoughts in your heart. It is a special book that becomes a place for the spirits of the gods and Buddhas to reside when you open its pure white pages before them. Mindful of the Goshuincho's important role, I deliver this work with the prayer that it may be a comfortable place for the gods and Buddhas, and a book of good fortune for you. [Product Details] Cover The fabric is 'Kiryu Kinran Textile' (synthetic fiber). It is relatively durable and resistant to fading, allowing you to enjoy the beautiful woven patterns for a long time. Textiles (fibers) are sensitive to friction and snagging. By using a Goshuincho pouch or similar, you can keep this piece in a more beautiful condition. Body 11 folds 23 pages on one side 46 pages on both sides *Excluding the cover surface Sourced from specialists, this is Hosho paper selected with great care by traditional Washi artisans. I use a double-layered concertina-style Hosho paper that is resistant to bleeding, quick-drying, and offers a smooth writing experience for the brush. Size (mm) Approx. 122x185x18 (Please allow for slight variations) *Regarding particles inherent to Washi Pulp fibers, wood chips, and black spots (impurities) that occur during the manufacturing process are part of the characteristics of Washi paper. While impurities are removed over a long period before the material is dissolved, it is difficult to remove every tiny particle. All pages of the Hosho paper are inspected. I leave these as they are, as attempting to forcibly remove them may cause holes or scratches. Please be aware that forced removal may cause damage such as holes, tearing, or unevenness. I kindly ask for your understanding that these are characteristics of Washi. [Woven Patterns] Front Cover Dragon Motif (Round Dragon) and Clouds The expression 'like a dragon obtaining clouds' refers to a situation where heroes or great figures become highly active. The front cover is beautifully woven with dragons and clouds floating on a translucent satin white background. Back Cover Tomita Cloud Kinran 'Lingzhi' (Reishi) has been treasured in China since ancient times as a medicinal herb for longevity. 'Tomita Kinran' is a textile featuring a pattern of 'Lingzhi clouds'—clouds that resemble these mushrooms. It is said that this fabric takes its name from the Sengoku period warlord 'Tomita Sakon Tomonobu,' who received it from Toyotomi Hideyoshi and treasured it. *This is a completely one-of-a-kind piece. Please note that because the placement of each woven pattern is adjusted during cutting and the cuts are irregular, the position of the patterns may differ slightly from the photographs.
